namely edge and commit server configuration.
A commit server handles all file content and global metadata.
Edge servers reduce WAN traffic and provide better performance
all around. An edge server is similar to a forwarding replica,
but also handles workspace metadata and can process a significant
chunk of work locally (syncing files, opening files for edit,
starting a merge, etc.) with no communication back to the commit
Please note the updated generation 3 merge engine enabling file rename support
now becomes the default in the 2013.2 release. Deploying commit and edge servers
requires advanced planning and familiarity with Perforce replication technology.
