Are there any plans to allow comparing of non-text differences in Word documents (i.e. formatting, images, graphs, etc.)?

Yes. The upcoming version of Commons has a new comparison engine that will display many non-text differences. I just saw a demo by the developer; it's pretty snazzy. I'm nearly positive that it is in the next version but I'm following up with the dev team to confirm.

(edit: Just confirmed. Next version has the fancy compare engine with support for pictures, footnotes, and other Office features)
