Hi
Is it possible for a client spec to be owened by multiple users?

I have a case where i want a user to be able to update the client spec (add a View)
and another user who wants to updated their workspace with the client spec.

This seems to work by default.
however if i lock the client spec then only the owner can update and sync it. Another user
cannot add a new View to the spec, which is not good to me.

Any suggestions?

Thx
derek

Hi Derek,

To get a better idea of what you want to accomplish, why do you want the shared client workspace locked?  We have the following Knowledge Base article on sharing workspaces for reference also:

Hi,
I dont want to share the workspace.

I want 2 people to be able to update the client spec e.g. change the View.
Only 1 person will ever checkout the client spec to a workspace.

So just one workspace that is auto updated with a cron job by a "special user on the network".
A list of users that can update the client spec.

Thx
derek

However, I can imagine a broker script that would handle this functionality.

Hi Derek,

If the client workspace is not locked then it can be updated by other users. Thus, other users already have permission to modify it if it is not locked.

If the client workspace is locked, then the "special user on the network" needs to have admin level protection rights and use the '-f' flag with the 'p4 client' command.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

This link is a 404. What's the current link for this info?

A google search for sharing workspace ownership comes here.

FWIW, the use cases described in this thread for sharing a client spec are much better solved by streams IMO.  :)
