P4V client hangs upon opening a connection

When I start the Perforce Visual Client and hit OK to open my connection...


...p4v.exe appears in the Task Manager.


So it seems that the program is running but there is no indication that the application has started.

The application's main window does not appear. It's as if I hit the Cancel button instead of the OK button.

I tried uninstalling to install the 32-bit version vs. the 64-bit version and I get another error.
