Hi,

Not sure if it's a problem at your end or in Outlook (2013) but where I've signed up for RSS notifications about software releases, every message I receive looks like:

Title - 2016.1/1384678 for P4Search is now available for download as of February 17, 2017 at...
Date - Mon 16/01/2017 23:00
Feed - Product Release RSS Feed
Content - 2016.1/1384678 for P4Search is now available for download as of February 17, 2017 at...

Every (almost) message I've received this year says "February 17" and is dated 16/01/2017, no matter when you actually sent them - got that one about P4Search this morning.

Except I received 4 in April which seemed ok:

Title - Perforce Software
Date - Tue 18/04/2017 00:00
Feed - Product Release RSS Feed
Content - Perforce releases a patch for for P4D 2016.1/1505726 available for download now.

Almost looks like you're sending those from two different servers, one works and one doesn't.

I just signed up for an RSS feed, and I am not seeing the problem. As a diagnostic test, try signing up through Mozilla Firefox (Go to www.perforce.com and scroll to the bottom and click the RSS icon) and see if the Live Bookmarks has the same problem.

I got a bunch of those. They might be related to the recent reorg of the
perforce.com website.

Thanks, I can't reproduce at my desk, but I have alerted our IT department.

Hi Dave and Michael,

Can one of you provide me with the URL of the feed that you subscribe to?

Cheers,
Brad

The address I'm using is:

http://www.perforce..../p4releases.rss

I tried the Firefox/Live Bookmarks option but just saw job vacancies and press releases, not the individual product patches/updates I'd been receiving.

Edit:

Ok, so I just tried Firefox/Live Bookmarks on that address above (not the one via the icon on Perforce.com) and it shows February 17 for every post too, so it's not an Outlook problem.

This was a problem with the configuration of the tools generating this RSS feed. They were sorting by Order ASC instead of DESC. I have updated the feed to account for this and the newest releases are now at the top. There are lots of duplicates for each release, which is a different problem, one we're looking at now. For the time being at least the information in the feed is accurate and useful; that's an improvement.

Got some more updates from the feed this morning - they're showing ok in Firefox but not in Outlook. I think the problem might be with the pubDate field which is:

but in Outlook I get:

Posted on : Wed 11/01/2017 23:00

All the info I can find about pubDate indicates it should be this format:

Maybe Firefox can decode any format and Outlook is a bit less forgiving.

I think the closest we can get using default options is:

I've set the feed to that format now. Can you check and see if Outlook likes it any better? You might need to reload the feed; I'm not sure how flexible Outlook will be.

I can certainly look into custom date formatting if you're still having problems.

I'm still seeing the old date format, even after reloading in Firefox. Maybe a caching issue between there and here, I'll try again tomorrow.

Edit: Still unchanged - maybe the XML I'm seeing for the feed doesn't update until there's a new P4 release?

If I view the RSS page source in Firefox (or view it in Chrome which doesn't handle RSS so just displays the plain source anyway) I see:

https://www.perforce...er.install.htm…

2016.2/1520747 for P4D is now available for download as of June 12, 2017 at https://www.perforce.com/downloads

If I view the other RSS feed at https://www.perforce.com/rss.xml I see:

So on that other feed the date is correct and using the full format.

Interesting. After making a few more changes, this is what I see in Chrome:

Ok, I now also see:

2016.2/1520747 for P4D is now available on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial (x64) for download as of Mon, 06/12/2017 - 10:49 at https://www.perforce...s

view

And in Outlook:

Looks like you fixed it! :)

Although it's showing a crazy flaw in Outlook - it was messed up earlier because of the
format. Now that's correct, it's much happier. But then it decides not to display it, and instead displays the time the message was received. Bonkers!

Thanks for sorting that out.

Dave
