Hansoft server admin backup path issues

I have Hansoft server admin installed on a Windows 10 machine.
Automatic backups (scheduled) error out with the following message:

Backup failure trying to create the destination backup folder. The error reported was: Windows returned an error from CreateDirectory(\\?\UNC\NASSYNOLOGY\Program_Backups, //NASSYNOLOGY/Program_Backups/Hansoft/2018-09-24 02.00.00.114): Access is denied.

I thought perhaps it didn't care for the network path so I mapped it to Z: and still had the same results.

I should also point out (not sure if this is the issue) that the path delimiter is rewritten by hansoft.
Windows path: \\NASSYNOLOGY\Program_Backups\Hansoft
Rewritten to: //NASSYNOLOGY/Program_Backups/Hansoft

What does work:
- change the path back to the correct Windows path
- save (which still shows the backup destination directory with the incorrect path delimiter)
- press Backup Now
- choose full backup or snapshot
- database performs the backup as expected

However that's manually backing up as opposed to scheduled.

What should I consider to resolve this issue?
