I'm currently trying to setup a virtual stream for one of my teams, but I don't want them to have access to the parent stream. Here is the current setup:

//depot/main - is the parent stream
//depot/main/stuff/ - is the view of the virtual stream (stuff_stream)

my users have access only to stuff_stream, and no access to main. When they try to sync a workspace that is mapped to stuff_stream, it says no permission for operation on file(s). Am I wrong in understanding that the purpose for virtual streams is to narrow down the view of a parent stream? Why can't I set permissions differently on them?

My setup on the virtual stream is: (entered under the "paths" section)
exclude ...
share main/stuff/...

Thanks

Permissions are set based on the paths of the actual depot files, and in your virtual stream the depot files are still under the main path (i.e. when they submit edits to that stream, they're going directly to the real files in main, not branched versions).  I think what you want to do is grant the users access to //depot/main/stuff/....
