Hi,

Recently I had to move my perforce server to another machine (same centos 7 distro). So I made a .zip back-up of the P4ROOT folder and moved it to the new machine with a fresh perforce install.

When I run the configure-helix-p4d.sh:
SSL certificates found in ssl
p4dctl error:
'SSDepot' p4d: '/opt/perforce/sbin/p4d' exited with status 255.
Started 0 services.
p4dctl error:
Not all services started successfully.

And the p4dctl.conf.d/SSDepot.conf appears to be correct. So when I attempt to start the server I get:
-- Unit perforce-p4dctl.service has begun starting up.
Nov 22 17:14:29 slughorn perforce-p4dctl[4406]: Starting Perforce services: p4dctl error:

I don't have much experience but looks to be a permission/authentication problem. Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated!

Check the server's log file (by default this is a file called "log" in the P4ROOT directory).  My first guess would be that the license needs to be updated; my second would be that you upgraded the server executable (p4d) without upgrading the database (in which case the error message in the log will tell you to run "p4d -xu" to upgrade the database).

Thanks Sambwise! You're right: I tailed the .../logs/log file and it complained about "Database is at old upgrade level 33." so i -xu and the server started. =D
